Tutti and Theo play a couple with a baby. In the episode, Theo is in rehab and Tutti shows up often to check on him with their child. Tutti plays the concerned wife who continually asks William if he thinks her husband is ok. Theo and William Banks ( Benjamin Bratt ) have a few discussions about God and religion during the episode. Theo is shown painting a mural in the rehab center. His painting turns out to be a life saver with a twist. Through out the show Theo appears to either be delusional from the drugs he is recovering from or really in touch with God, as he gives William some pretty insightful comments.

Even if it means swallowing pills like candy in order to make weight and manage his pain. But lately, his addiction has begun spiraling out of control – his behavior is unpredictable, and his wife approaches William Banks ;the Cleaner for help.

William agrees to take the case not only for her, but for Saul, a man William recognized at the stands and with whom he clearly has a past connection. William rallies his team with Akani and Swenton working in the stables, and Darnell working security (he’s reluctant to be near the racetrack, and William doesn’t push him, a former addict himself).

The plan is to swap out Jimmy A’s pills with lesser-potent diet pills manufactured by Swenton; the team will make “the grab” once Jimmy is more manageable. Once the plan is put into motion, and Jimmy is brought to one of William’s “safe houses”, it becomes apparent that this will not be a typical “grab”. Jimmy A’s kidneys are failing and William explains to Mrs. Alvarez that he may not be physically able to race again.

Mrs. Alvarez is unhappy faced with the possibility that she may be losing her glamorous lifestyle, and tells William that racing is Jimmy’s life and he’ll never stop riding no matter what the consequences. While Jimmy is detoxing, William tells him about his own experiences in rehab; “At some point, I looked up and all I saw was you,” he says, “…I’d never seen anything that graceful before…” Jimmy is then visited by Mr. O’Hurley, boss and owner of Dandelion Wine (the horse Jimmy is scheduled to ride in an upcoming race).

O’Hurley tells Jimmy that Dandelion Wine will be ridden by another jockey while Jimmy is in rehab, news that clearly upsets him. Jimmy A. manages to escape the rehab and makes it to the stables in time to take up his mount in time for the race, but not before visiting a veterinarian for an injection of some unknown substance. William confronts Mrs. Alvarez about Jimmy A’s escape, and she tells him that Jimmy A. is human, and if he wants to ride, that’s exactly what he’ll do.

A conversation between William and Mr. O’Hurley reveals that Dandelion Wine is being put out to stud after this race, and there’s lots of money riding on whether or not the horse wins. O’Hurley said exactly what he needed to say to Jimmy in order to motivate him to get on that horse. As Jimmy is exiting the stables on his way to the starting gate, William tells Jimmy that he was played, and that he doesn’t have to run the race if he doesn’t want to. Jimmy responds that he wasn’t played, that everyone is going to win in this equation.

The race begins, and Dandelion Wine is lagging at the beginning, but comes from behind for the big win. As Jimmy sits upon his mount in the Winner’s Circle, basking in his victory, he suddenly appears ill, and falls off the horse and dies. William realizes that Jimmy A. knew going in that this was to be his last race. He also struggles with the fact that not everyone can be saved. At the end of the episode, you find William speaking with Jorge, Jimmy A’s protégé, a junior rider.

William tells him that he learned from the best; Jorge hands William a bottle of pills, saying that perhaps he learned too much from Jimmy. Jorge asks William for help, and William agrees, an opportunity to prevent another senseless death.

William Banks, played by Benjamin Bratt, is assisted by his team of former drug addicts to help pull Barbara out of her addiction. William Banks, a former junkie now turned drug counselor, agrees to take the case after uncovering a suburban drug ring involving the wife and several of her friends.

Akani Cuesta, a member of William’s team, visits every doctor that the husband’s wife has visited in the past and asks for prescriptions for drugs that could be used recreationally (recreation drugs). All of the doctors had previously written her a prescription. After the encounters with the doctors, the team confronts each doctor and explains to each the situation of the wife’s major drug addiction.

During the drug addicted soccer mom’s daughter’s birthday, she realizes she ran out of medication and goes on a rampage searching for her stash. She knows she doesn’t have anymore and she tries to go obtain a prescription. All of the doctors turn her down and explains to her the risks and consequences of her drug addiction. When Barbara gets back to her house, she is distraught and showing withdrawal symptoms.

Her husband continues to help her addiction by canceling bank accounts and credit cards to keep her from buying drugs off the street. Soon after, she pulls out whatever cash she has left around the house and drives off to a street dealer. The dealer turns her down like the doctor while William watches from the background.

After the wife arrives home, she purposely slams her hand into a drawer. The husband starts having a serious talk to her about her addiction. She breaks down crying and promises she will try to quit. The husband believes his wife and tells William he has helped enough.

Based on Williams personal experiences as a former junkie, he knows that his wife only said she would quit, but would not go through with it. She continues using and her husband finds out. In the end, she ends up at rehab and cleans up her act. Both her and her husband thanks William for saving her life.

This is an episode from the A&E show Cleaner which stars Benjamin Bratt as William “The Cleaner” Banks an interventionist who tries to help people off drugs. He struggles to do this while trying to hold his family together. This is because of the strain on them from the time that he was an addict.

The plot of this episode starts with Ray junior, the son of the first person William tried to help showing up at his shop. William learns that the boy’s mother had died from an overdose but had a number of years clean. The boy also tells William that he is in the foster system and his father, Ray senior, has been released from prison. You find out as the show evolves that William was responsible for this happening because the father was in the house with drugs when William picked up the mother for an intervention.

The son asks William to help keep his father clean. The father has a job cleaning cars at a lot and is trying to stay clean even though he’s having troubles with his bills. However he learns that his son is going back in the system because his foster parents are moving. He wants to be able to provide his son with a home they can share. This pressure causes him to fall back with his motorcycle gang and agree to go on a drug run.

William finds out the metal worker that rigs the gas tanks for the gang has been picked up and uses this to make an entry. He convinces the gang that one of his men can rig the tanks for their motorcycles. This gives him an in and helps in keeping an eye on the father.

While trying to do this things stay in flux at home for William Banks. William’s daughter is talking about a spelling contest his son blurts out that he is quitting football. William is the coach of the team and tells him no. The next day William stops his son and a friend on their way to school to confront him about it, but while trying to talk to him gets a call about the case and has to leave. To rebel the son throws footballs through a building’s windows and waits to be picked up.

Back to the car cleaning drug addict, William finds out the father has started smoking crack again and tells two of his people to watch for him at the gangs club. These are Swenton (Esteban Powell) who rigged the tanks for the gang and Darnell McDowell (Kevin Richardson) a recent addition to the team. Swenton defies William’s orders and tries going back into the club to see. The gang is suspicious and starts questioning him, pistol whips him and forces him to smoke some crack. Swenton tries to avoid it because he’s one of the people William had helped in the past.

The climax comes when William tries to rescue Swenton and reveals that he was the cause of the Ray senior’s prison sentence. With the gang holding guns on William and Swenton the son Ray junior bursts in holding a gun. He tries to get them to let William and Swenton go explains that he was the one who wanted them to help his father. He gets so desperate that he is going to lose everything he tries to shoot himself.

William stops him and Ray senior calls for the gang to stand down because he is going with William. During the end of the show you see snippets of the father going cold turkey. Swenton smoking more crack and them breaking down and asking Akain for her help even though he has always made fun of her in the past saying she receives all of the best jobs.

Finally you find out that William’s son Ben has disappeared which has his wife frantic. They have the police looking for him, although by the end of the show Williams’s daughter tells him she got a text and Ben is safe, but she won’t say where. The show ends with William crushing a rock of crack that had been dropped by Ray senior earlier in the show that William was looking at and considering.

One involves a math professor ( Teddy ) that uses cocaine to finish some research, and another involves a needle found in the cleaner’s house after a dinner party.

Melissa & William Banks from The Cleaner (Chaos Theory)

It appears to be a “business-as-usual” episode with your drug addict du jour. Only drugs are the addictions dealt with weekly, and this episode is no different. The mathematics professor’s girlfriend seeks William’s help, since the professor is in danger of losing everything from the cocaine use. Everything includes a diner owned by the professor’s parents, who were immigrants. The professor scribbles fervently at his dry erase board, ever so haunted by the numbers in the equations.

The white powder being snorted is definitely not chalk dust. While teaching in the class room, the professor claims the numbers are haunting him. The cocaine addicted professor goes on to say, “Everything in the universe can be measure by our fingers and our toes.” At the diner, his parents seem to know something is up, based on the professor’s shoddy appearance. He believes the drug use will help him get through his research, and help him obtain a federal grant.

In reality, signs of use are showing: He is missing meetings, and cash advances are being taken on his credit card. The girlfriend gets William involved. William and his team monitor the professor, and ultimately, William is able to capture the professor and get him off to rehab.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (William’s home), Ben discovers a needle in the bathroom after a dinner party that his parents threw. He takes the needle and hides it, wondering where the needle came from. There were a few guests at the party that could be suspects, or could the needle belong to William?

While William is working on the other plot line, Ben starts smoking cigarettes. William questions Ben as to why he is making such great decisions with his life. Ben makes a comment about the apple not falling far from the tree. The next morning William and Melissa have another failed attempt at thawing out their marriage. William then demands to know why Ben was smoking as a teen, and Ben shows him the needle.

Ben asks if it is William’s as does Melissa, after William takes it from Ben and shows it to her. William confronts Quinn about the needle, and Quinn denies it is his. Quinn also assures Melissa that the needle is not his. Quinn is credited by William to have saved his life, meaning the one who pulled him from his addiction. Also important to know, Quinn is William’s friend from prison. Quinn is hit with a major guilt trip when Lula thanks him for saving her dad’s life. After that, Quinn confesses to William, and William decides Quinn is no longer welcome in their house. William agrees to help Quinn, but decides their score is even.

Overall, a decent episode, but the writing appears to be becoming formulaic. Drug addict needs help, and William helps. Even the character development at home is somewhat predictable. Obviously Ben and Lula are growing, and need the proper guidance to avoid the pitfalls that William has experienced, but the method that William instills his family values leaves a little polish to be desired. I hope future episodes will allow others in the family to make some mistakes, without William coming to the rescue each time.
